- WARNING: This version of NetBIOS over TCP/IP *requires*
- OS/2 version *2.0* or later. However, it will
- run on TCP/IP version 1.2.1 or later.
-
- Follow these steps to install this CSD:
-
- 1. Remove any previous version of TCP/IP NetBIOS
- by using the NBRMV program provided on the CSD diskette,
- or by manually editing your CONFIG.SYS file.
-
- a. To remove NetBIOS using the NBMRV program, invoke NBMRV
- from an OS/2 command prompt. The program will
- automatically remove all references to NBTCP
- from your CONFIG.SYS file, and erase NBTCP from
- your disk drive.
-
- b. To manually delete any previous version of TCP/IP
- NetBIOS, remove the path to NBTCP by editing
- the PATH and LIBPATH statements in your
- CONFIG.SYS file, and delete the following line:
-
- DEVICE=<path>\NBDRIVER.SYS
-
- 2. Install the TCP/IP Version 2.0 for OS/2: NetBIOS Kit:
-
- a. Insert this corrective service diskette into any
- drive, for example the A: drive.
-
- b. Enter the TCPINST command:
-
- A:> tcpinst
-
- c. Respond to the prompts from the installation program.
-
- CID Installation
-
- This version of the NetBIOS kit complies with IBM's
- Configuration, Installation, and Distribution (CID)
- guidelines. You can install it with TCPINST, the
- standard TCP/IP installation program. And it is
- packaged to install in your TCP/IP base directory.
- For example, if your TCP/IP base directory is D:\TCPIP,
- the NetBIOS kit will install into the D:\TCPIP\NBTCP
- subdirectory. You should install the NetBIOS kit
- into the TCP/IP base directory so that it will be
- unpacked to D:\TCPIP\NBTCP.
-
- When you install the NetBIOS kit, the installation
- program makes any needed changes to the CONFIG.SYS file
- automatically.
-
- Starting NetBIOS:
-
- 1. Before you use TCP/IP NetBIOS, a line must be
- added to your CONFIG.SYS to load the NBDRIVER.SYS
- device driver. This is done automatically by TCPINST.
-
- If either NBDRIVER.SYS is not loaded, or the NBTCP.EXE
- program is not running, your NetBIOS applications
- will not run correctly.
-
- 2. NBTCP.EXE is a TCP/IP application, so you must start
- it AFTER you have started TCP/IP. You can accomplish this
- in one of two ways:
-
- a. Edit TCPEXIT.CMD, located in the \TCPIP\BIN subdirectory,
- and add the following line:
-
- START <path>\NBTCP\NBTCP.EXE
-
- where <path> is the drive and your TCP/IP base directory.
- For example, if you installed TCP/IP on D:\TCPIP, the line
- you add would read:
-
- START D:\TCPIP\NBTCP\NBTCP.EXE
-
- b. You can also start TCP/IP and NBTCP.EXE from the
- STARTUP.CMD. If your system starts TCP/IP
- from the OS/2 Startup Folder, open the Startup Folder
- (located in the OS/2 System Folder) and delete the TCP/IP
- Startup Folder. Next, edit or create STARTUP.CMD on
- your boot drive (the drive that contains CONFIG.SYS)
- and at the top of STARTUP.CMD, add the lines:
-
- CALL <path>\BIN\TCPSTART.CMD
- START <path>\NBTCP\NBTCP.EXE
-
- where <path> is the drive and TCP/IP base directory. If
- you installed TCP/IP to D:\TCPIP, your STARTUP.CMD file
- should contain:
-
- CALL D:\TCPIP\BIN\TCPSTART.CMD
- START D:\TCPIP\NBTCP\NBTCP.EXE
-
- 3. At this point, you can shutdown and restart your
- workstation. TCP/IP and TCP/IP NetBIOS will start
- automatically, and NetBIOS applications should
- run correctly.
-
- Future Installs:
-
- If you chose to start TCP/IP and NBTCP from the STARTUP.CMD,
- you should be aware that whenever you run TCPINST to install
- a TCP/IP component, TCPINST automatically runs the TCPDSKTP
- command to create the TCP/IP Workplace Shell desktop. By
- default, TCPDSKTP starts TCP/IP from the OS/2 Startup Folder
- rather than STARTUP.CMD. After installing NBTCP, you should
- always start TCPINST with the /SF- option to prevent
- TCPDSKTP from re-creating the TCP/IP Startup Folder.
